Microsoft’s business applications, such as Dynamics 365 (CRM/ERP suite) and the Power Platform, are the backbone of many companies’ operations. At Microsoft Build 2025, these solutions got a serious AI infusion, aimed at moving towards what Microsoft calls the “autonomous enterprise.” The marquee announcement was the introduction of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for Dynamics 365 currently in preview.
In essence, Dynamics 365 apps will become AI-ready by exposing their data and capabilities through standardized MCP interfaces. This allows AI agents and Copilots to directly interact with business application data and functions in a secure, consistent way – almost as if the AI is a user who knows how to use the apps. For example, an order-processing Copilot agent could automatically take an order from Dynamics Sales, check stock and create a fulfillment order in Dynamics Supply Chain, then schedule an invoice in Dynamics Finance, all without human intervention.
Previously, this required complex RPA scripts clicking through each app; now these AI agents can call each system’s functions via MCP as if speaking a common language. It is a significate step toward end-to-end process automation. Microsoft aptly described it as unlocking the autonomous enterprise by removing the tedious work of connecting these systems together for agents.
Why is this impactful? It means the silo walls between different business apps are coming down when it comes to AI. Agents will be able to seamlessly chain together actions across CRM and ERP systems. Entire processes can be managed by AI agents across multiple departments. Think of a customer support scenario: a customer’s info is in CRM, their purchase history in ERP, their support tickets in a service system – an AI agent can now pull and update information across all of those to resolve an issue or escalate to the right team, in one go
This leads to faster response times and more accurate outcomes, since data is centralized and accessible across all systems. Moreover, it increases the ROI of existing solutions; your Dynamics data and logic can now be put to use by AI in novel ways, not just through standard UI or reports. Microsoft emphasized that this standardization (MCP) greatly simplifies developing new AI agents and Copilots that work with business data. So, we can expect not only Microsoft, but also partners, to deliver a wave of intelligent agents that plug into Dynamics 365 out-of-the-box to do various jobs – from automated invoice reconciliation to intelligent lead management.
Building on the momentum of Dynamics, Microsoft also turned its attention to Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Pages), which many businesses use to create custom solutions. They announced a host of features to make building and using business apps more AI-powered. For instance, Power Apps now has a unified “development plans” canvas (now GA) where makers can describe what an app should do in natural language, and an AI copilot helps turn that into working app components.
This means when designing a custom application, you can easily start by writing something like “We need an app to track employee onboarding tasks,” and Power Apps will suggest data tables, flows, and even initial screens. It is much like having an assistant solution architect.
Similarly, Power Apps introduced an Agent Feed inside applications (in preview) that lets users see and interact with any AI agents operating in the app. For example, if you have a Copilot in a finance app that suggests budget optimizations, the agent feed could show what suggestions it made or actions it took, and flag when human approval is needed.
This keeps the user in control and informed, even as AI works alongside them. Additionally, makers can now use natural language to generate app UI (a feature sometimes called “generative pages”), where the AI writes the underlying code for screens based on a description. These capabilities significantly speed up application development and make advanced features, like embedding Copilot into your app, much more accessible.
Likewise, Power Pages (for building external websites/portals) received upgrades like the ability to easily add custom code with AI assistance and integration with Visual Studio Code for professional developers. This dual approach (AI-assisted no-code plus pro-code tools) means organizations can build rich, AI-infused web portals faster and with less specialized knowledge. And importantly, Microsoft is allowing these low-code development apps and sites to tap into the same AI and agent ecosystem.
The Microsoft Business Solutions announcements underscores a significant shift: AI is no longer merely an add-on to business processes; it is becoming an integral part, woven into their fabric. From the core Dynamics apps now being controllable by AI agents (via MCP), to the custom apps you build in Power Apps coming with AI copilots by default, Microsoft is enabling a future where a substantial portion of routine tasks within business workflows can be offloaded to intelligent agents.
For businesses, this translates into sales orders processing automatically, reports generating themselves, customer inquiries getting answered faster, and new application being built in a fraction of the time, all with AI helping at each step. As companies navigate the AI journey, they will need to pilot these capabilities carefully and ensure the AI outputs are accurate and compliant.
But the vision of an “autonomous enterprise” is no longer aspirational; Microsoft is delivering the tools to turn this vision into reality, where human creativity and judgment guide the business, while AI manages the more mundane tasks in the background. It is a vision where business software does not just passively store data but actively works for you. The Build 2025 conference showed that vision coming to life across the Microsoft business stack.
