Worthington Industries, Inc.

Galvanizing a brittle technology stack for one of the continent’s leading steel processors

1

The Challenge

Steel titan cannot see around the corner with disconnected supply chain applications

As North America’s premier steel processor for the last 60 years, Worthington Industries provides customers with a wide range of capabilities, products, and services for the automotive, construction, and agriculture industries. For demand and supply planning, they used Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) along with Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning and Oracle Demantra. The applications were disconnected, not fully utilized, and were only known by a handful of employees. The pandemic further highlighted the need for better insights into demand planning, sales, and operations.

The Solution

Going beyond demand planning with insights into future states of sales and operations

Worthington wanted to improve communication between distinct business areas and provide reliable delivery expectations to their customers. They also required the retirement of both Demantra and ASCP in a ‘big bang’ approach, so that was done along with integrating Oracle Cloud solutions with legacy Oracle EBS. Argano helped Worthington with Oracle EBS upgrades and brought the knowledge of Worthington systems and processes to the transformation to Oracle Cloud Supply Chain Management (SCM). The cloud solutions were able to go beyond demand planning, also providing insight into sales and operational forecasting.

The Results

Successful cloud integration results in a significant reduction in days of inventory

Argano was able to help get this implementation and integration done, with specific actions including connecting Oracle Sales and Operations Planning within Oracle Cloud SCM and Oracle Demand Management within Oracle Cloud SCM. Worthington also successfully connected applications to the legacy Oracle E-Business Suite, and migrated Oracle ASCP to Oracle Supply Planning within Oracle Cloud SCM, and Oracle EBS Global Order Processing to Global Order Processing within Oracle Order Management (part of Oracle Cloud SCM). The resulting infrastructure enhancements reduced days of inventory, improved demand planning, and streamlined operations.
