Harvesting efficiency: How connected planning revolutionized a wine giant's financial performance

1

The Challenge

A leading premium wine producer faced significant challenges as it prepared for its initial public offering (IPO). The company needed to present complete and accurate data, but was struggling with massive data volumes that complicated management and reporting across its growing portfolio of companies. Additionally, the business required consistent, unified plans that utilized industry- and function-specific terminology and processes, while also managing costs effectively, particularly during harvest seasons when purchasing grapes.

The Solution

To address these challenges, Argano implemented a comprehensive connected planning solution across Finance, Supply Chain, and Sales. For Finance, this included Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) modeling, Operational Expense Budgeting and Variance Analysis (OpExBVA), Capital Expenditure (CapEx) planning, Executive Dashboards, and Workforce Planning. In Supply Chain, the solution encompassed the California Grape Crush Report, Harvest Analysis and Scheduling, Supply Planning, Wholesale Demand Planning, and Estate Vineyard Planning. For Sales and Marketing, the implementation included Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Sales Planning, Sales Planning and Reporting, and Variable Compensation management.

The connected planning solution enabled the wine producer to access granular and reliable financial and supply data across its 10 brands and 150 labels. This led to enhanced collaboration and significant time savings through connected data and consistent planning processes. The company also achieved agile purchasing capabilities and obtained detailed, timely COGS data, even during the busy harvest months, thereby improving overall business agility and accuracy in financial planning.
