Unlocking growth through operational excellence with Oracle Cloud Applications

The Challenge

For more than seven decades, ODL, Inc. has been a cornerstone of the building products industry, skillfully manufacturing and supplying a diverse range of items that enhance the modern home. From elegant door glass and innovative in-door storage systems to advanced tubular skylights and retractable screen doors, ODL has consistently lived up to its promise of "building value into building products."

Selling primarily through B2B channels and major retail home centers, ODL has experienced significant growth and rising sales. This success, however, brought a critical challenge to the forefront. The company’s legacy system, Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), could not provide the advanced planning, forecasting, and operation control needed to meet changing customer expectations across a growing range of products and locations. The platform had become a complex web of over 300 customizations, failed to support adjacent business lines, and was no longer aligned with the company's modern service model. ODL knew it had to move beyond the limitations of its aging and highly customized ERP system to build a foundation for scalability, agility, and continued growth.

The Solution

The path forward for ODL pointed decisively to the cloud, a strategic choice that promised to replace the patchwork of third-party solutions, support the company's evolving service model, and provide a robust financial suite capable of efficient, trustworthy consolidation. A journey of this magnitude required more than a systems integrator; it demanded a strategic partner. ODL chose Argano, building on a strong existing relationship. Argano's integration methodology and expertise in Organizational Change Management were critical, ensuring that a successful transformation of people and processes would match the massive technological shift.

Together, they charted an ambitious course. Implemented from Oracle Cloud ERP were Financials and Project Management, and the Oracle Cloud SCM suite included Inventory Management, Demand Management, Supply Planning,  Manufacturing, Order Management, PLM, Procurement, Maintenance, Quality, Production Scheduling, GOP, S&OP, OTM, and WMS. In scope from Oracle Cloud EPM was Financial Consolidation and Close as well as Planning, along with CPQ and Commerce from Oracle CX. Argano built custom integrations that allowed ODL to introduce or discontinue products seamlessly without redundant data entry.

As the project progressed, its scope expanded, with a custom labeling solution as part of the WMS rollout, the integration of five additional adjacent businesses into EPM, and the implementation of Oracle CX Incentive Compensation. The result is a modernized, unified platform that gives ODL a holistic view of its global operations. This helps customer service and inventory management teams better predict delivery schedules, ultimately fulfilling ODL's core purpose: to make life better for its customers and its employees.

The Results

The successful Oracle Cloud Applications deployment was about more than just installing technology. A core requirement from the outset was to actively ensure employee acceptance of the coming changes at all levels of the organization.

At the heart of this cultural shift was the transition to a much faster, data-driven organization. The new, high-availability architecture provides direct access to critical data, KPIs, and analytical tools. Newfound clarity and trust in the data had a ripple effect across the entire enterprise, translating into significant, measurable benefits.

The new Oracle CPQ and Commerce Cloud tools enable complex, customer-specific pricing agreements and allow distributors to order configurable products directly through a self-service B2B portal. In finance, the meticulously redesigned Chart of Accounts provides better alignment with product lines, while a streamlined customer structure allows for superior consolidation, reporting, and visibility. In the supply chain, the system seamlessly addresses both "build to order" and "build to stock" fulfillment models, creating a chain of automation from initial order capture straight through manufacturing and shipping. And in logistics, the new Warehouse Management system provides granular tracking of all distribution center movement, while OTM lays the groundwork for enhanced carrier tracking and payments.

To maximize its technology investment, ODL leverages Argano Managed Services to free up resources to focus on growing the business. The implementation project succeeded in large part due to a team of dedicated members from both ODL and Argano working in a constructive, collaborative partnership for transformational change.
