Transforming enterprise operations: A multi-year journey from fragmented systems to strategic agility

1

The Challenge

A Fortune 100 global media and entertainment leader faced interconnected operational challenges that were constraining growth, increasing costs, and limiting competitive agility. Decades of organic technology evolution created a complex web of fragmented systems across critical business functions—from procurement and finance to identity management and application integration. Each system operated independently, requiring separate licensing, support, and maintenance while delivering diminishing business value.

The business impact was severe and compounding. Escalating technology costs consumed budget that could fuel innovation and growth. System fragmentation created operational inefficiencies that slowed time-to-market for new digital services and customer experiences. Data silos prevented real-time visibility into enterprise operations, hampering strategic decision-making. Most critically, the outdated architecture could not scale to support the company's ambitious digital transformation objectives and strategic growth initiatives in a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.

Procurement & Finance: Disconnected procurement and finance systems created compliance risk, manual workflows prone to errors, and limited visibility into enterprise-wide spend. Global invoicing compliance issues and delayed payment cycles strained supplier relationships while preventing the organization from capturing strategic sourcing opportunities.

Identity & Data Management: More than 2 million identity records scattered across legacy platforms created data inconsistencies, governance gaps, and security vulnerabilities. Siloed business unit operations and manual onboarding processes slowed organizational agility while increasing operational risk.

Integration Infrastructure: Multiple integration platform instances running simultaneously—each with separate licensing and support—drove mounting costs and technical complexity. The legacy environment had become a constraint rather than an enabler, unable to support modern cloud services and API-driven architectures essential for digital innovation.

Leadership recognized that incremental improvements would not solve these systemic challenges. The organization needed a comprehensive transformation strategy that would modernize core infrastructure, unify fragmented systems, and create a scalable foundation for future innovation. However, the scope and scale of change required careful orchestration, proof of concept validation, and a trusted partner who could execute across multiple domains while maintaining business continuity.

The Solution

The client partnered with Argano to execute a comprehensive, multi-year digital transformation across three critical pillars: modernized procurement operations, unified identity management, and validated integration platform migration. Rather than separate point solutions, Argano designed an integrated transformation strategy that addressed systemic challenges while building momentum through phased delivery and measurable quick wins.

Procurement & Finance Modernization

Argano led the implementation of a cloud-based Source-to-Pay (S2P) framework, tightly integrating Coupa with SAP to unify procurement, drive automation, and establish enterprise-wide governance. The solution leveraged middleware-powered data flows through the Enterprise Data Hub (EDH) to create real-time visibility and enable scalable operations.

Key components included automated procurement workflows connecting requisitions, purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoices; master data governance enabling SAP to feed clean, consistent data to Coupa; the Boundary Application Highway (BAH) framework to standardize P2P integrations; and API enablement through EDH for rapid business unit onboarding. Built-in governance and security controls ensured enterprise compliance at scale.

Identity Data Management Transformation

Through collaborative workshops across six business units, Argano developed a unified identity data framework that established enterprise-wide taxonomy, modernized the Identity Data Repository, and laid the foundation for automated provisioning and governance. The engagement included platform upgrades (webMethods and SQL Server) to enhance performance and security, system logic refactoring to reduce technical debt, and Active Directory provisioning enablement to streamline user onboarding.

Integration Platform Validation & Migration

Recognizing the high stakes of platform migration, Argano executed a strategic proof of concept to validate Informatica Cloud Application Integration capabilities before full-scale investment. Within a few months, the team rebuilt ten carefully selected integrations representing the spectrum of complexity in the production environment. This rigorous validation approach tested API-based application integrations, identified optimization opportunities, and equipped leadership with evidence-based recommendations for the full migration.

Throughout all three initiatives, Argano brought deep domain expertise, collaborative change management, and a commitment to knowledge transfer that built internal capability alongside delivered solutions. This was not just technology implementation—it was strategic partnership that transformed how the organization operates.
